Your child flushed a toy down the toilet huh? His/hers Buzz Lightyear is stuck between the pipes and causing a back-flow onto your new tile and trim. You are not sure who is crying more. Your child who is screaming about the horrible drowning they are witnessing or you. You are balling and trying to stop the water from reaching your ankles.
Do not fear though. There are a couple of things you can do if you are in this situation. One thing you can keep in mind though is your young child is curious and that is good! Maybe they will have an interest in plumbing!
Ways to Get Flushed Toy Out of The Toilet
Plunger…

The first reaction is to get a plunger and that is right! Insert the plunger and try to dislodge the toy from the toilet.

Do not be afraid to be a little force-full with your plunging since toys are solid plastic.
Gloves!

If you are feeling dangerous and courageous. You can drain the toilet with coffee cans or buckets and then grab it with your hands! But, please be sanitary while doing this.

If you REALLY are feeling dangerous you can grab gloves and get the toy without draining it. As long as there is no human waste it should be pretty clean.
A Coat Hanger?

Another way you could get it out is with a bent coat hanger. Be careful that you do not scratch the side of your toilet or the pipe below. This might help with your fishing game. 🙂

Objects with some type of bend to them could work as well.
Snake or Auger

You could be a handy-man if you own a snake or an auger. These are plumbing tools that clean and clear drains. Be sure though to be carful because you do not want to push the toy further down the toilet.

Going this route is the most ethical. Especially if you have experience with these tools.
Liquid Un-Clogger..Drano!

Products like Drano are hazardous if not used right. But it may be acceptable if there is toilet paper or (other natural matter) behind the toy. The sad thing about this situation is, your child is going to lose their toy. The pony will take a lifetime trip down the sewer. You can buy these products at any hardware stores.

When you dislodge the toy and it goes down the toilet. Calm your child down and tell them it is okay!
