Do you need a new water softener? Like every appliance in your home. It will eventually go bad. Old age kicks into the old piece of metal and you begin to see a decline in the job it is supposed to do. So, what about your water softener?
Water softener’s perform a pretty important job to your water. Softener’s remove the “hardness” of your water to make it less harmful to your homes plumbing.
Now, you may ask: “What makes water hard?”
Hard water is water that contains high levels of minerals in it. Don’t worry, everybody and their mother puts up with hard water and it is not harmful to humans either. But, what it is harmful to is your homes plumbing and it can stain things like dishwashers, sinks, etc…Here are a couple things you can look for in faulty water softener:
If you notice some white/scaly looks on faucet tips or even dishes, and you have a water softener. This can be a sign that something is wrong with your softener. Scale build-up can be bad for in-house plumbing because it simply, clogs it.
If you drink water from your faucet/refrigerator. And you start to notice that it is starting to taste like grandmas backyard hose in the summer of ’69. Then you might have a problem. That taste is the minerals.
Now, bare with me on this one. Because you could have randomly itchy skin from a legitimate medical condition. But, with that being said. Having hard water does cause skin to dry and become itchy.
Yes, this can be a symptom. Soft water is, well, softer. Soft water makes it easier to lather your body with soap. If your water does not feel as soft as it used to. Then it may be a good time for your water softener to get serviced.
If you feel that your water softener takes up a little too much space. This could possibly mean that your water softener is getting a little old. Water softeners nowadays are a single unit and are more efficient.
If your water pressure is getting low and you do not suspect it to be your pressure tank. Then it could be a build-up of minerals in your pipes.
