The most frequently asked plumbing questions are not the dumbest ones! But, they are the questions that form a basic foundation to our own plumbing knowledge. For the non-plumber, plumbing can be difficult to understand. Questions like “Why is my hot water heater not working?” and (my favorite) “Why is my toilet running?” are asked because these problems all arise eventually! So, let’s review some easy questions to help fix your plumbing issue.

Most Frequently Asked Plumbing Questions

Why is my toilet running?

Most of the time it is caused by the flapper not closing to seal around the flush valve. Jiggling or flushing the toilet again sometimes resolves the issue. If that does not fix the problem. The flapper could be worn out and need to be replaced.  There can be other mechanical issues that aren’t obvious to the homeowner.  Even though a toilet gravitational flush method seems pretty simple, you must consider the dynamics it takes to flush.  It’s important to get your toilet fixed correctly in order to prevent long-term issues.  The main concern is the water wasted when a toilet runs continuously.  It can wrack up the water bill in a matter of hours not days.  If you have any doubt about how to make a toilet repair it’s wise to call a licensed professional plumber who is not only skilled but properly trained to make toilet repairs.

Why do we run out of hot water fast?

NO-hot-water | plumber near me

One of the most frequently asked plumbing questions but it depends on what type of water heater you have. If you have an electric water heater, then it could be the heating element. Gas? Then it could be the dip tube. In fact, having a tank water heater runs the risk of having sediment. Other possibilities are the number in the household.  When a water heater isn’t sized to meet the demands of the household, it runs out of hot water fast.  There could be a leak that is draining the water heater.  Even though a water heater looks pretty simple on the outside, there is a lot of engineering that happens on the inside.  There is a glass thermal lining that is a factor in supporting hot water.  If you are irritated with running out of hot water, call a Licensed plumber and get some advice!

Why is the faucet leaking?

A corroded gasket or valve is sometimes the problem. It could be a faucet stem that has busted.  Fortunately, these parts can be replaced without having to buy a whole brand new faucet. Faucets get used constantly and the parts are exposed to daily wear and tear.  As with a running toilet, a leaking faucet can wrack up the water bill in a few hours.  It’s important to get a faucet fixed properly the first time, otherwise, the leak will return quickly taking more of your time and frustration.

Why is my drain clogged?

You have to be careful of what you flush down the drain. Drains are much like human arteries.  They carry liquids daily from one point to another.  When there is a build-up or stoppage along the way, the system comes to a halt.  This may mean a major sewer back-up or a sink back up.  It’s important to get to the source of the blockage.  While a plumber isn’t a heart surgeon, they are definitely skilled to know how to remove

Money-down-the-toilet | Plumbera blockage.  They can use a special camera to inspect the line and find the source of the blockage.  Once the blockage is located they can determine how to treat the issue.  Plumbers can snake the drain for you if home remedies are not working.  The important message is to not use harmful chemicals in your drain line.  They are a bandaid method of fixing the drain line. Your best bet for a drain clog is to get it fixed right the first time in order to prevent issues down the road.
