Why is My Hot Water Heater Leaking?
Leak at the top?
If the water heater is leaking from the top. It could be the inlet/outlet pipes, or the valves connected to them. Feel around to see if there are any loose fittings or if a pipe has worn down.
Leak at the bottom?
If you find the water heater leak to be all around the bottom of the tank. It could be that the tank has a crack. If a crack is the cause to your leak. It is time to replace the water heater.
It Could Be The T and P Valve
The good ol’ T and P valve may make you relax a little if that is the cause of your leak. Because you may not have to replace the water heater just yet.This valve activates and releases water if the pressure in your home is a little too high or if the temperature gets too high. Check the Drain Valve
The drain valve is toward the bottom of the water heater tank. Make sure the valve is completely turned off. If it is, then it may be an easy fix. Call a licensed plumber to help completely diagnose the problem and fix it.
